We are looking for our Rotterdam office for Shipbroker(s) (m/f)

You will be responsible for negotiating and fixing spot cargoes on various routes within the inland tanker barge market. You will be in daily contact with our clients, such as oil & chemical companies, trading houses, and barge owners.

These tasks typically include:

  • Negotiating and fixing spot cargoes on behalf of our clients
  • Negotiating time-charters and contracts of affreightment on behalf of our clients
  • Providing operational follow up of barge fixtures
  • Collecting market information
  • Expanding our customer base
  • Maintaining good relationships with new- and existing customers

You have at least an MB0 or equivalent level of training, preferably in a maritime or logistics environment. You have proven commercial skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and a professional knowledge of Dutch and English, with

German as preference. You are self-reliant and like to work in a team where communication is fundamental. Knowledge of our customer’s industry in general (oil & chemicals) and maritime industry will give you an advantage. Ideally, you have 2 to 5 years of professional experience.

Together with our clients we organise the barge transport of renewable, organic and bio products. We also handle mineral oils and chemicals. We strive to make our customers’ business more significant and sustainable. Riverlake’s core business is strategically focused on three axes. We are a leading provider of maritime Brokerage services and we are experts in developing Storage terminals for oil and gas and renewable products, including associated infrastructure such as jetties and single-point mooring systems. We are at the forefront of services associated to the industry, all of which are regrouped under our Intelligence unit.

We are looking for a Barge Operator(s) 

You will be responsible for following the daily operational handling of all barge traffic. As a broker between charterers and barge owners, you will proactively advise all parties on operational aspects from the moment of securing transport to completion of the voyage. Processing demurrage cases and performing some administrative tasks also fall within your mandate.

These tasks typically include :

  • Treating voyage updates and documents with our customers
  • Addressing operational matters and tackling issues
  • Maintaining the operational management system
  • Post fixture follow-up including assessment of demurrage claims
  • Administrative follow-up of invoicing and data management

You have at least an MBO or equivalent level of training, preferably in a maritime or logistics environment. You have proven operational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and a professional knowledge of Dutch and English, with German as preference. You are self-reliant and like to work in a team where communication is fundamental. Ideally, you have 1 to 3 years of professional experience.

Project description

You will oversee a big data shipping intelligence project aimed at gathering data from the maritime sector from various sources (AIS positioning system, websites, mails…), which is then enriched using programmatic and machine learning techniques for accessing by our customers.

 

Responsibilities

For this shipping intelligence project, you will be responsible for:

  • Finalisation of the technical development of the project until its commercial launch
  • Editing of the technical documentation and instructions for users
  • Support the deployment of the project on production infrastructure
  • Set up of monitoring tools and organisation of the maintenance of the project
  • Supervision of the relations and communications with technical partners

 

Profile/Skills

  • Holder of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, autonomy, and organisational skills
  • Mastery of computer languages such as Python
  • Basic understanding of the machine learning pipeline
  • Good oral and written English skills
  • At least 3 years of successful experience in management of IT projects
