After more than 10 years working for shipping companies in the Mediterranean fuel oil market Cristiano has spent his last 3 years concentrating on the Middle East Gulf chartering and business development.

4th of october is Mercy Ships cargo day !

After a successful inaugural year in which the lives of countless individuals has been improved by access to medical treatment often regarded as basic in the western world but sadly lacking in many regions in which we trade, Riverlake has decided to extend its commitment to Mercy Ships’ for another year.

The Cargo Day is fixed for 4th of October, so there are now only two weeks for you to join our crew and show your support by registering your commitment to the cause.

Last year, the committee raised just over USD 300,000, and this year we are hoping to achieve at least USD 500,000 which will go directly to supporting the provision of desperately needed medical care to those most in need.

Eclipse Navigation has awarded the Atlantic Voyager to STM Ship Management

We are pleased to announce that Eclipse Navigation Inc has awarded the commercial management of the m/t Atlantic Voyager to STM Ship Management SA.

M/T Atlantic Voyager, built in 2009 and formerly known as Fair Artemis will now be technically managed by the leading global marine and offshore vessel management provider V.Ships, part of V.Group Limited.

It is owners firm intention to promptly reach a level of safety and reliability which they consider to be the minimum criteria for modern tankers and to ensure that their fleet complies with all the latest regulations.

Vessel is expected to be open in Tema 18/21 June 2017 after delivery to new owners.

London shipbroker raises funds for UK victims of terrorism

Campaign aims to raise £2,000 for those affected by terrorism in Britain

FOLLOWING the terrorist attack in London on Saturday evening, one shipbroker has called on the London shipbroking community to come together and show their support for the victims of terrorism in the city.

Riverlake Shipping’s Nick Coulson set up a justgiving page to funnel donations from London’s shipbroking community to the British Red Cross Society’s UK Solidatory Fund, which provides relief to those affected by terrorism in the UK.

Mr Coulson told Lloyd’s List by email that the campaign was the result of him arriving at his desk this morning and wondering what he could to help in the wake of the attack.

“Borough market is a popular venue for London shipbrokers for entertaining and a meeting place for many of us. Any of us could have been affected by this awful event,” he said.

“The British Red Cross provided me with exactly the vehicle to try and help through its Solidarity Fund. l just felt that we as a community may like the opportunity to help out the people as individuals and/or companies.”

Mr Coulson said that a number of broker firms have pledged their support, and that he hopes to drum up further support for the London shipbroking community.

Riverlake Shipping SA sells its demurrage outsourcing business to Sturzenegger & Co

We are pleased to announce that Riverlake Shipping SA has now concluded the sale of its demurrage claim outsourcing business to Sturzenegger & Co LLC with effect from 1 May 2017. This transaction has been conceived with a view better to serving the interests of Riverlake’s clients by ceasing conduct of any demurrage claim handling services and focusing solely on Riverlake Shipping’s core brokerage activity.  

For Sturzenegger & Co the acquisition of this demurrage claims service is a natural fit with its specialist activity in advising on and handling legal claims for the shipping and commodity trading sectors, and will enhance that firm’s capabilities and position. 

Arturs Evele, Head of Demurrage Services, as well as Christel Denizot, Senior Demurrage Analyst, have been taken over into employment with Sturzenegger & Co but will continue to function as a separate stand-alone business unit serving their existing clients. They will have access to and, at the same time, augment a team of very experienced lawyers serving and contributing to the shipping and commodity sectors in Geneva.

We have just welcomed the latest addition to the dry desk in London. Please put your hands together and welcome Graham Baldey !

Graham started his first job in shipping back in 1994 as a trainee agency clerk in Mersin, Turkey and in his spare time learned Turkish which he now speaks fluently.  On his return to the UK, he started working in shipbroking for some years. He then wanted to work for an Owner or Charterer and started to work for a South African operator, taking ships on long term charter and booking long term COA’s as well as fixing in house cargoes for steel traders that also worked for the group.  He has since worked for Noble Group as a freight trader, Clipper Bulk Panamax UK, Sahaviriya Steel and PCL Shipping.  The varied nature of his experience gives him plenty of ideas when looking at any business and realising synergies between different departments in any given shipping business situation. We are all looking forward to benefiting from his experience and knowledge to enhance the day to day activities of Riverlake Shipping Dry Bulk in London managed by Jeremy Swales and to add value to their activities. This is furthermore an expertise for the whole group in a continuous idea of global maritime services development.

It contains our freight estimates on 8 selected routes for the ARA-range and Rhine, waterlevels and latest bunker reference prices, represented in numbers and graphs. Every day we collect the latest market information and include this in our report. You will receive it every working day before 10:00 hrs in your mailbox. 

At year end we send our subscribers (on request) an excel sheet with the daily freight evolution for the selected routes, enabling them to use our data for their own statistics.

New manager at Riverlake Nigeria

We wish to inform you that Mr Adeyemo Alakija has decided to go back to his trading roots and therefore will no longer be part of Riverlake Nigeria, Lagos, effective May 5th 2017. We wish to thank “Yemo” a lot for his very valuable work during the last five years. He has been a paramount element in setting up an office there, dedicating a lot of time and energy. We have enjoyed working with him, as a friend as well as a business partner, we wish Yemo all the very best in his new venture.

To replace him, Mr Bello Tukur, currently Chartering Director at Riverlake Nigeria for nearly two years has now been promoted as the new Managing Director. Bello has proven incredible shipping knowledge and capacity during his time with Riverlake. He has years of professional experience in the industry and his expertise in LPG, Oil tanker chartering, Shipbroking and ship management contributes immensely to our business strategy in the local market. He has now taken the leadership to continue this local office growth.

Riverlake’s Lagos office is capable of chartering and operating oil tankers directly with local players. This shows the capacity to develop business based on Riverlake Group strategy. Riverlake Nigeria has a strong and active presence in the indigenous market, and a self-sustained office in the economic capital of Nigeria, Lagos.
