“When my former colleague, now retired, François Petit and I founded Riverlake in 1985, we were respectively 32 and 26 – young, driven, and convinced that with hard work and integrity, we could build something meaningful. Looking back, we had more courage than experience, more determination than resources, no money… but we moved forward anyway.
People often ask:
“Why the name Riverlake?”
The story is simpler – and more human – than most expect.
One of our first supporters, who believed in us during that fragile first year, was born in a small town near Stockholm called Älvsjö.
Its name comes from two Swedish words:
· älv = river
· sjö = lake
Translated into English, it became Riverlake.
No branding strategy. No marketing magic. Just a quiet tribute to someone who believed in us when the company was nothing more than an idea and determination. And a bit of Sweden in it.
40 years later, Riverlake is more than a name.
It represents resilience, trust, and the people who make it real every day.
That’s why I wanted to share this story: to celebrate the journey, the origins, the people, our partners and the purpose behind the name.
To you, to Riverlake !”
